National Schools Finals 2010

Roedean School in Brighton witnessed 43 schools, place 54 teams in over 260 games of netball on Saturday 20 March. The annual National Schools Finals Day 2010, hosted by England Netball, saw over 600 young netballers compete in the wind and intermittent rain to win their age groups’ winning trophy.

Hampshire were represented by Brockenhurst College in the U19 category and Thornden School in the U16 category.

Brockenhurst's day did not get off the to best of starts seeing the New Forest based team lose their first 2 games against strong opposition from Oldham and Hartbury.  The following five games saw the team get into their stride and win 4 and draw 1.  The final group game saw them come against the eventual winners, Barking Abbey where a good performance resulted in a narrow 2 goal win for Barking Abbey.  This meant
Brockenhurst finished 4th in their group - joint 7th overall.

Thornden had a similar day to Brockenhurst, not getting off to the best of starts.  They picked themselves up though and only lost 2 games out of their 8 contests.  This left them 3rd in their group narrowly missing out on a semi final place and placing them joint 5th overall

Well done to all concerned - a hard day's netball in difficult conditions.
